Question 1

Should I clean spider webs after a pest control treatment in Adelaide?

Accepted Answer

We recommend leaving spider webs in place for at least two weeks after your spider treatment. The chemical residue left on the web continues working long after the initial treatment, killing any insects that come into contact with it. Removing the webs early reduces the effectiveness of the treatment. Once the two week period has passed you can safely clean the webs away knowing the treatment has done its job.

Question 2

How do I choose a pest control company in Adelaide?

Accepted Answer

Look for technicians who are fully licensed under South Australian regulations and hold current police clearances, working with children checks, and public liability insurance of at least $10 million. Ask whether the company uses integrated pest management approaches tailored to the specific pest species, rather than generic spray treatments. A reputable Adelaide pest controller will provide a written report after every service, offer a warranty period with free retreatment if pests return, and be transparent about pricing before any work begins. The Local Guys have won the ProductReview Award five consecutive years, voted by verified South Australian customers.

Question 3

What can I expect from a pest control service?

Accepted Answer

Inspection

Upon our arrival, you will be greeted by one of our friendly pest control technicians. Before we begin the inspection, we will discuss your pest issue with you. This ensures we are well informed so we can determine the best course of action. Some of the things we will discuss with you, include:

Pest species
Location
Reason for activity (why the pest is there to begin with)
Treatment options
Budget
Once we have been informed of all the details, we will inspect all the areas of concern. This inspection will be different for each service. However, during every inspection we are not afraid to get down and dirty to ensure we are conducting a thorough and detailed inspection. Areas of inspection may include:

Roof voids
Subfloors
Gardens
Sheds
Internal and external areas of building
Treatment

Once the inspection has been completed, the pest control professional will inform the client of their findings and recommendations for treatment. We will provide several different options, based on the best course of action, budget and any other concerns you have.

Our technicians are trained to use various techniques and products to treat your pest control concerns, depending on the level of infestation and the location. We understand pest control is not a one-size-fits-all measure… and therefore, we tailor each pest control job to ensure the best results every time!

After you agree upon a treatment plan, the technician will walk you through each step, so you are fully informed of the process that is to be performed. Additionally, they will discuss with you what they require from you to ensure you and your family are kept safe.

Reporting and Follow Up

Upon completion of the treatment, you will be provided with full reporting outlining the service and any other future recommendations to prevent future pest infestations. Not only do we want to help you eliminate your pest control problem, but we also want to prevent you from experiencing it again.

Our professional technicians will inform you if you require any follow up treatments. We will also contact you when your next suggested treatment is due, so you do not need to worry about having to remember to rebook in! We want to make all of your pest control issues as stress-free as possible, which, to us, includes not only the treatment, but also the follow up process.

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every pest control service completed by The Local Guys across Adelaide and South Australia comes with a free service period guarantee. Question 5

How much does pest control cost in Adelaide and what payment options are available?

Accepted Answer

General pest treatments in Adelaide start from $160 for crawling insects including cockroaches, spiders, ants and silverfish. Flying insect treatments including wasps, bees and flies start from $160. Rodent treatments for mice and rats start from $175. Termite inspections start from $230 and full termite treatment costs vary depending on the property size, level of activity, and treatment method recommended by your technician.

At The Local Guys our pricing is competitive because each of our Adelaide technicians operates as a local small business owner with significantly lower overheads than large national pest control chains. Lower overheads mean lower costs for Adelaide homeowners and businesses without any reduction in service quality or treatment standards.

We understand pest control costs can be an unexpected expense that often comes at the worst possible time. For this reason we offer flexible payment options across Adelaide including cash, EFTPOS on the day, and payment plans for eligible customers. Commercial businesses may also receive an invoice payable at a later date depending on the technician's terms.

If you receive a cheaper written quote from another Adelaide pest control company, discuss price matching directly with your technician at their discretion.

For a no obligation quote tailored to your specific pest problem and property, call 13 11 05 or request a free quote and one of our local Adelaide technicians will respond within two business hours.

Question 6

Why should I use a professional pest controller instead of DIY in Adelaide?

Accepted Answer

A professional pest controller will always deliver more effective and longer lasting results than a DIY treatment. Many Adelaide homeowners try supermarket sprays first because they seem cheaper and more convenient. The reality is different.

DIY pest treatments in Adelaide properties have four consistent problems:

They only provide temporary fixes. Supermarket sprays treat what you can see. A licensed pest controller treats the source, the harbourage sites, the entry points, and the conditions attracting pests in the first place. Without addressing these, the infestation returns.
They can be dangerous. Professional pest controllers are trained in the safe handling and application of chemical treatments under SA Work Health and Safety Act 2012 requirements. Inexperienced handling of pest control products around children, pets, and food preparation areas creates genuine health risks.
They are not applied by someone with a trained eye. Identifying German cockroaches versus American cockroaches, redback spiders versus white-tailed spiders, or Coptotermes acinaciformis termites versus other timber pests requires specialist training. Misidentification leads to the wrong treatment and wasted money.
They can have serious legal consequences. When dealing with protected species such as possums and certain native birds, you must hold the correct SA licences and follow government regulations under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972. Unauthorised removal or mis-baiting of protected species can result in significant fines under South Australian law.

Question 7

Why am I still seeing pests after my pest control treatment in Adelaide?

Accepted Answer

Seeing pests in the days immediately following a professional treatment is completely normal and is actually a sign the treatment is working. As the product takes effect, pests are flushed out of their hiding places, wall cavities, subfloor areas, and harbourage sites, and become visible before they die. Once you start seeing dead pests around your Adelaide home or business this confirms the treatment is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

Most Adelaide homeowners see a significant reduction in live pest activity within 48 to 72 hours of treatment. For some pest species like cockroaches this can take up to two weeks as the product works through the entire colony.

If you are still seeing live pest activity beyond your free service period simply contact your local Adelaide technician and they will return and retreat the affected areas at absolutely no extra cost. That is the The Local Guys guarantee and it applies to every single job we complete across Adelaide and South Australia.

Question 8

Is it normal to smell something after rodent pest control treatment in Adelaide?

Accepted Answer

While it is uncommon, an odour can occasionally occur after a rodent baiting treatment. This happens when a rodent consumes the bait and passes away in an area that is difficult to access such as a roof void, wall cavity, or subfloor space. The smell is temporary and will naturally dissipate over time as the process completes.

If you do notice an odour after your rodent treatment at your Adelaide property simply contact your local technician and let them know. As part of our free service period guarantee we will return to your property and do everything possible to locate and rectify the concern at absolutely no extra cost. Your comfort and satisfaction are our priority and we will not consider the job complete until you are happy with the outcome.

Question 9

How often do you need pest control in Adelaide?

Accepted Answer

Australian Standard AS 3660 recommends every Adelaide home and business is inspected for termite activity at least once every twelve months. For properties in high risk areas like the Adelaide Hills, northern suburbs, and eastern suburbs where subterranean termite pressure is elevated, we recommend inspections every six months. For general pests including cockroaches, spiders, ants, and rodents, most Adelaide homeowners benefit from a treatment every six months to stay ahead of seasonal activity. Adelaide's warm Mediterranean climate means pest pressure does not stop in winter the way it does in colder states, making regular treatments particularly important for maintaining a pest free environment year round. Prevention is always less costly and less disruptive than dealing with an established infestation.

Question 11

What are the most common pests in Adelaide homes?

Accepted Answer

The most common pests Adelaide technicians treat are German cockroaches, redback spiders, subterranean termites, roof rats, and European wasps. Adelaide's Mediterranean climate means cockroaches and ants remain active year round, including through winter in inner city properties and commercial kitchens. Subterranean termite pressure is elevated across the Adelaide Hills, Tea Tree Gully, and eastern suburbs due to clay soil conditions and established native vegetation. Rodents move indoors in autumn as temperatures drop.

Question 13

Why is pest control important?

Accepted Answer

Pests will continue to be apart of our everyday lives, which is why the pest control industry is important for everyone. Here are some reasons why:

Safety: Although pests are often viewed as just a nuisance, safety is also a major concern. In regards to children and pets, bees, wasps, and spiders can be critically dangerous.
Building damage: The structure of homes can be compromised by termites, which can lead to irreversible damage that is not covered by home insurance. Additionally, electrical faults can occur from rodents and birds gnawing at electrical wires, which can lead to fires and electric shocks. Water damage can also occur from damages to plumbing and drainage from pests, which can lead to termite attraction and mould.
Health: Pests, such as pigeons, rodents and cockroaches are known carriers of harmful diseases, which can be spread throughout your home and contaminate your food.
Peace of mind: Pests can be unsettling; therefore, a technician can provide you and your family peace of mind from their presence. Pest control prevention options are also available.
Compliance: Pest Control is essential in many commercial businesses, including the food and hospitality industry to ensure the health and safety of anyone who come into contact with the business.

Question 14

How are pests getting in my home?

Accepted Answer

Pests can enter the home in a variety of ways. This may include:

Entering through an open door or window
Transported in via laundry, groceries, second-hand furniture, pets, etc
Cracks and crevices
If you are finding pests in your home, you should also consider why they are present as well as how they are getting inside. Factors which may increase the attraction of pests in your home may include:

Food and water sources
Cleanliness
Pets
Warmth and shelter
As a result of another pest issue (birds nesting can bring bird mites into your home)

Question 15

Do you offer bee removal and relocation in Adelaide?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All Local Guys technicians across Adelaide provide bee relocation options as a priority over eradication wherever possible. We work closely with local SA beekeepers to safely relocate hives and colonies rather than destroying them, recognising the critical role bees play in South Australia's agricultural and ecological health.

Bee relocation depends on two factors — the client's preferences and the accessibility of the hive. Where a hive is accessible and relocation is practical, our Adelaide technicians will coordinate with a local beekeeper to remove and rehome the colony safely. Where relocation is not possible due to hive location or safety concerns, our technicians will discuss all available options with you before any treatment begins.

We take bee protection seriously because population decline is a genuine concern for South Australia's food production and native ecosystems. Adelaide's warm Mediterranean climate supports active bee populations year round, with swarm season typically occurring in spring when colonies split and search for new nesting sites across metropolitan Adelaide and surrounding regions including the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, and Fleurieu Peninsula.

If you have found a bee hive on your Adelaide property, do not disturb it. Call 13 11 05 or request a free quote and one of our local Adelaide technicians will assess the situation and recommend the safest and most appropriate solution for your property.

Question 16

What could be making noises in my roof in Adelaide?

Accepted Answer

It is common for rodents and animals to enter roof voids across Adelaide properties seeking warmth and shelter, particularly as temperatures drop in autumn and winter. If you believe you may have something living in your roof void, listen for these sounds:

Scratching
Scurrying
Gnawing
Movement
Screeching
The type of sound can give you a clue about what pest you are dealing with, but identifying roof void pests by sound alone is notoriously difficult. At The Local Guys we always say:

"A mouse sounds like a rat, a rat sounds like a possum, and a possum sounds like an elephant."

If you are hearing noises in your roof void, the safest and most accurate approach is to have a licensed Adelaide pest controller conduct a professional inspection. Our technicians will identify exactly what is living in your roof void and recommend the most appropriate treatment or removal solution. For possum removal, our technicians hold the correct SA licences required under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 to legally and humanely relocate protected species. Call 13 11 05 or request a free quote and one of our local Adelaide technicians will be in touch within two business hours.
